Let us introduce you to our fabulous PhunkyFoods Ambassadors at Greetland Academy in Halifax. These guys have worked so hard this year! In September they started with the Get Active topic, delivering an assembly for Year 3 on the importance of being active for 60 minutes a day - every day!
In Term 2 they chose the Eatwell theme doing another assembly for Year 3 on healthy eating, explaining the Eatwell guide and why healthy eating is good for us. They also ran a poster competition asking pupils to design a poster demonstrating the healthy eating message and organised a healthy eating game for their fellow classmates.
And finally this last term they chose the Bag A Breakfast theme. This time they went down to the lower school and did an assembly in front of 120 children in KS1 on the importance of eating the right breakfast. They also went into reception and played the cereal sugar game with the children, seeing if the children could put the cereals into order of their sugar content, from the lowest amount to the highest amount. This demonstrated how much sugar is in most of the common cereals, and showed the children which are the best ones to choose for a healthy breakfast. The cereals were then put on a display for everyone to see.
We are so proud of the hard work of this fabulous team and so are their teachers, who had this to say about the scheme:
"The children of our school have both enjoyed and benefited from the PhunkyFoods partnership. The PhunkyFood Ambassadors have taken their role within school very seriously and have been excellent advocates in promoting the healthy eating and lifestyle message. The school children appreciate input from their peers and as a result the messages are given credence and increased validity when delivered by friends or older children.
Working as a member of a team; undertaking surveys; consulting with staff and friends; producing posters; presenting findings and promoting a ‘healthy life-style’ message in both class and assemblies has been invaluable experience for the PhunkyFood Ambassadors. Skills and confidence are gained which prepare them for future challenges both at school and in the world of work."
The PhunkyFoods Ambassadors scheme was developed by PhunkyFoods, with funding from UK Nestlé Healthy Kids.
