Welcome to our PhunkyFoods Autumn blog!
Hopefully the sun is shining and it’s the perfect weather to get out and about and some fresh air. Look for signs of the changing season - leaves turning brown, mushrooms growing, acorns scattered on the ground and the grass damp with dew. Spending time outside and being physically active has many benefits, to both our bodies and minds.
Did you know that being physically active can help us to enjoy learning as well as to learn more effectively? Our PhunkyFoods Active Schools content is coming to the website this academic year and provides information and activity ideas on ways to incorporate movement within the curriculum.
The start of a new school year is a great time to take a look at the PhunkyFoods website and see if there are any topic based activities that are relevant to your teaching this term.
Also have a look at therecipe section, as we are often adding new, mouth-watering creations.

For example, Golden Glamorgan Sausages are traditional Welsh vegetarian sausages made from cheese and breadcrumbs and make a delicious addition to a warming, autumnal meal.
With October rapidly approaching, the PhunkyFoods team have been considering ways that we can incorporate food activities into themed days, such as Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas, and the benefit that this has on learning.
PhunkyFoods Nutritionist Beth, has written a fantastic article in Teach Early Years, including lots of fun, seasonal activities involving food prep. Healthy edible wands for Halloween could also double up as fun sparklers for Bonfire Night, whilst spooky spider crackers are fun for Halloween or when learning about the autumn.
These activities are suitable for pupils throughout primary school, so take a look at Plan a day of festival food, for more ideas.

Autumn is the perfect time to learn about seasonality and foods that grow near to where we live. Apples are particularly abundant right now, so how about trying one of our apple-based recipes?
