Fun was had by all on Friday 31 January when Member of Parliament for Scarborough & Whitby Robert Goodwill visited Wykeham Primary during a PhunkyFoods session. The MP – along with every pupil in the school – enjoyed making and eating our famous PhunkyFoods ‘Super-Crunch‘ – a winning combination of fruits and yogurt with a crunchy oat topping.
Mr Goodwill said: “The children certainly enjoyed the process of making a healthy and nutritious dessert and indeed, some were trying foods such as kiwi fruit that they hadn’t tried before.” Leading the session, Alexandra Campbell from PhunkyFoods explained to the children that trying new foods was a very good idea as our tastebuds change as we grow up – and sometimes we need to try a new food several times before we discover a taste for it! There was also discussion about the 5 A DAY message, seasonal fresh fruits, and frozen, tinned and dried alternatives.
Head teacher James Pynn said: “I liked the ethos of the programme which teaches children about healthy eating through fun activities, games, drama, music and PE lessons. This is particularly important amid all the current publicity surrounding the perils of obesity and the need for children from an early age to learn about healthy eating and lifestyles.”
Thank you for inviting us to your school Wykeham Primary, you made us feel very welcome, it was wonderful to meet you all and get Phunky with Food together!
