Chefs from Nestlé Professional hosted cookery workshops in PhunkyFoods schools last week, as part of International Chef’s Day, to raise awareness of healthy cooking and eating amongst school children.
Through the Nestlé UK Healthy Kids partnership with PhunkyFoods, Nestlé Professional chefs Darren Chapman and Justin Clarke visited schools in Halifax and Carlisle to share their passion for cooking and teach children healthy recipes. Hosting interactive workshops for the pupils meant that children could see and experience first-hand just how easy healthy meals can be to prepare.
Headteacher, Jane Boylan, from Savile Park Primary in Halifax said, “I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work organising Darren’s visit on Friday morning. The children absolutely loved it and are still talking about what they did and learnt.”
School Business Manager, Chris Kania, from Pennine Way Primary in Cumbria said, “The opportunity to experience cooking skills we are not able to do in school with the experience and guidance of a trained chef was fantastic.”
Involving children in the cooking and preparation of meals is a great way to ensure good eating habits are established early on, encouraging them to be adventurous and discover new foods they may otherwise avoid.
