Selby and Ainsty MP, Nigel Adams was treated to a tasty lesson on healthy eating during his visit to North Duffield Community Primary School today.
After joining in with 30 pupils in a hands-on, ‘Back to Basics’ food preparation lesson as part of the PhunkyFoods Programme, Mr Adams commented, “Healthy eating habits are key to a child’s development and academic attainment. I am thrilled North Duffield Primary School and PhunkyFoods are working together to raise awareness of how giving children positive attitudes towards food and nutrition can improve their lifestyles and success in the classroom”.
In speaking of their own experience with the programme, North Duffield Community Primary School’s Teacher, Mr Hill, praised the programme; “We have been part of the PhunkyFoods programme for some years now and it is fantastic to see so many young children who are engaged in fun healthy eating activities. It also helps us achieve and maintain our proud healthy school status.”
Dr Jennie Cockroft, Director of Nutrition with Harrogate-based Purely Nutrition which conceived and runs the PhunkyFoods programme remarked, “We very much welcome the interest Mr Adams is taking in the programme and the fact that he wanted to see it being taught. Eating well and being physically active results in kids who are more alert in the classroom and better able to maintain a healthy weight as well as improving their self-esteem”.
