On Tuesday this week the PhunkyFoods team descended on the beautiful Palace of Westminster for a celebratory drinks reception to mark 10 years of PhunkyFoods. In that time we have reached over 1500 primary schools, SEN and early years settings; delivering healthy eating and physical activity messages to over half a million children and their families. What an achievement and what a celebration!
The team would particularly like to thank Andrew Jones MP for hosting the event, and Public Health Minister, Jane Ellison MP for her motivating speech, and for taking the time to come and chat to the team and make a Supercrunch pudding with children and staff from Charlotte Sharman Primary School in Southwark (see picture left).
Professor Pinki Sahota, Reader in Childhood Obesity from Leeds Beckett University, also gave a wonderful speech, giving our guests a glimpse of early research findings from their independent research on the PhunkyFoods Programme. More on that soon we promise …!
We would also like to thank Ana Baptista from Nestlé UK for a great speech about the work of our public/private partnership and how it ties in with the global Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme. Without the support of our industry partners we would be unable to offer the much needed evidence base that should always underpin public health programmes such as ours – so we would like to thank Nestlé UK again, as sole funders of the Leeds Beckett University evaluation study, for their support over the past seven years.
And so here’s to the next 10 years; working with schools and their talented staff to facilitate, enable and inspire them to meet healthy lifestyle curriculum requirements, inspection frameworks and incorporate more fun healthy lifestyles messaging into the school day, in order that all children are supported in making healthier choices.
