The Summer term will once again see our Engagement & Development Co-ordinators delivering the highly successful and popular Food Choices Transition Sessions to many Year 6 classes across the country.
These interactive healthy eating workshops are specifically designed to support children moving on from primary school up to their secondary setting. We know at this important stage in their life they are likely to start making more independent choices around their diet.
The aim of the Transition sessions is to support the children to improve their knowledge around health and wellbeing, whilst also increasing their confidence and self-esteem.
Pupils leave the workshops with a greater awareness around the importance of a healthy, balanced way of eating, as well as the skills and knowledge of how to practically apply the messages of the Eatwell Guide, and traffic light food labelling system when making food choices.
Another key topic of these hour-long workshops is to raise awareness amongst the children of the many external influences on our food choices, including advertising, social media and peer pressure.
The sessions provide lots of opportunity for the sharing of ideas around these themes in the form of small group activities and wider class discussion.
Many schools in our PhunkyFood programme areas have already booked their Year 6 Transition Session, with their local Engagement & Development Coordinators (EDC) delivering sessions throughout May, June and July.
If your school would like to find out more about these workshops or if you are keen to sign up to one, please contact your local EDC who will be very happy to support you.
